Introducing OLLIE ™: The Vibe Where AI-Powered Insights Optimize Real Human Patient Support
By Michael Oleksiw
Healthcare is at a pivotal moment. While artificial intelligence is revolutionizing every aspect of care delivery, we at Pleio recognize that technology alone isn’t the answer. The most powerful solutions emerge when we combine innovative AI capabilities with genuine human connection—this is the true potential of AI in patient support.
Being a self-proclaimed techie myself, it’s my honor to announce the launch of OLLIE™, our groundbreaking AI technology that analyzes authentic patient conversations to uncover the emotional barriers and friction points that impact medication adherence. I like to call this the “vibe”.
Understanding the Emotional Barriers to Adherence
The numbers tell a sobering story: approximately 50% of patients don’t take their medications as prescribed within the first year. Behind this statistic are real people facing health challenges, each with their own story of confusion, fear, and uncertainty. Loneliness, often elusive yet pervasive, is a significant factor that affects patient behavior and adherence. Nearly half of all Americans report feeling lonely sometimes or always according to a recent study by Cigna. These aren’t just data points—they represent individuals navigating complex emotions while trying to care for their health. OLLIE helps us understand these human experiences better by measuring patient confidence levels, identifying emotional barriers, tracking patient sentiment, and creating patient persona profiles. By recognizing that patients are people first—with real feelings, concerns, and needs—we can develop more compassionate and effective approaches to supporting them through their health challenges.
Bridging the Gap Between Pharma and Patients
Pharmaceutical companies, despite their extensive research and market analysis, often lack real-world visibility into their patients’ unique needs and preferences, leading to engagement strategies that may miss the mark of a patient’s “feelings”. OLLIE addresses this by developing patient personas based on their own conversational and performance data. By bridging the divide between analytical understanding and lived reality, OLLIE helps create more meaningful connections with patients.
The Future of AI in Patient Support
OLLIE’s captures key characteristics, needs, and preferences, enabling us to tailor support more effectively. By integrating OLLIE into our platform, we are enhancing the performance of all our programs, making it a powerful backend tool that drives improvement across the board.
What truly excites me about OLLIE is its ability to better understand the “non-hand raisers” – those patients who might not actively seek help but have significant unmet needs that require support. By analyzing conversation patterns, sentiment, and confidence levels, we can identify struggling patients earlier and provide more personalized support. OLLIE helps us understand what is important to patients, where they stumble, and how we can trigger emotions that shape behaviors.
Looking ahead, our roadmap sees OLLIE evolve into an even more sophisticated tool that can provide real-time guidance to our GoodStarters, helping them better understand and respond to each patient’s unique needs. In healthcare, the most powerful innovations aren’t just about technology – they’re about understanding people.
